New York Fashion Week Highlights

The buzz and excitement of New York Fashion week has drawn to a close for AW17 and as we prepare for the next fashion week wave to hit London, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what went down.

Graphics Got Political

The last year has been historical for politics, so historical you are probably tired of being reminded about it so we won’t bore you with a brief summary of current affairs. NYFW had a different opinion and was not going to be silenced. Designers looked to be rebelling against the new establishment echoing those we’ve seen at global marches demanding equality. Fashion is using its voice and it’s weapon of choice: the graphic tee.

Tapestry Gowns

I don’t know about you but after the 70’s reinvention back in 2015 which saw the catwalk and high street become a living time warp, we were ready to wave goodbye to fringing and tassels for at least a decade. Thankfully designers at NYFW have sought to restore our faith by updating tassels into opulent, tapestry inspired trims. Evening dresses were adorned in shimmering colourful trims which felt so new and exciting that we are ready to welcome back tassels with open arms.

Fur Sleeve Statements

Statement sleeves are currently the trending new update for tops and outerwear and this movement sees no intention of slowing down. For AW17 it’s all about using (faux) fur on winter jackets, knitwear and even tailoring to create visual impact and interest. Designers were keen to illustrate that there is no limit to colour or fur volume in order to make a statement.
