The Ever Evolving World of Denim Kingpins 18/19

BDA London headed to Amsterdam and here are the key takeaways from the event: So with that in mind, this report focusses on theEver-Evolving World of Denim: Kingpins AW19/20

Denim is retail’s favourite fabric, ever-evolving and confirming its status as a non-seasonal staple. We headed over to the city that embraces this fabric more than most, Amsterdam, for the AW19/20 Kingpins tradeshow to see what will be trending in 18 months’ time.

Pink Hues

Saturated pink tones were a dominant colour choice across Kingpins. With colour, in general, being a growing trend, it was these slightly kitsch pink tones that were seen driving the newness across men’s and women’s denim. Not something we’re surprised at given the up-trending of lilac hews and baby pinks over the past few seasons

Western Influences

The Western look is nothing new within the denim category. However, for S/S 18, it’s reinvented with a more contemporary finish, appearing less rugged and more refined. In line with the season’s smartening up of denim, the simplicity of silhouettes drives this trend. While design details synonymous with a Western look are present, they are pared back, executed in premium fabrics and contemporary colour combinations.

Trademark embellishments follow suit, used sparingly to feel elevated and less novelty. While this is a great look for the younger market, the smarter the styling, the wider the appeal of items.

Polka Dot Jacquards

Jacquards are now a mainstay for denim and this season sees the mainstream fashion trend for polka dots align with the indigo and denim world. Scales varied from textured micros to pronounced weave giant dots. If you’ve enjoyed this please share it with denimheadz you think would appreciate these details!
